Orant Charities began in 2006 with a mission of connecting travelers who want to help the poorest people in the world with missions that desperately need their contributions. To that end Orant began running trips around the world designed to bring the basic necessities of life to places like Cambodia, Peru, Guatemala, Mozambique and Malawi.
In 2007, Orant made its first trip to Malawi and fell in love with the people in the country known as the “Warm Heart of Africa.” Over time Orant began focusing its efforts solely in Malawi, establishing a permanent presence in the country in 2012.
In 2014, Orant had the opportunity to purchase a clinic previously run by another NGO and under government control at the time. When we took control, the property had been devastated by severe storms and was in desperate need of repair throughout the property. We have since invested more than $200,000 in renovations and program development. The result is one of the cleanest, best-stocked and most well-equipped rural medical facilities in the country.
Today Orant is a thriving multi-program facility dedicated to improving the quality and quantity of life in the immediate community that we work in. We employ 30 Malawian staff who are critical to accomplishing our mission of making measurable change to lives of people who live in the community we serve.
We are truly blessed by all of our donors and we recognize the limited resources we are stewards of. We run lean programs that leverage the maximum potential of our human and financial resources.
The founders and board members of Orant Charities are involved with this organization because of our faith in Jesus Christ. While Orant is influenced by the Catholic traditions of our co-founders, we are open to all faiths and seek to be a humanitarian organization that meets the basic needs of the poor.We believe in the words of James 4:1
"If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them."
We value the community of Kasese and we are committed to its growth and prosperity. In all we do, we work with community leaders to foster ownership and involvement of all that we work with.
Our goal is to make ourselves obsolete as quickly as possible. We seek to foster sustainable development and lasting programs that will be maintained by the community long after we have gone.
We are committed to the part of central Malawi that we serve and our goal is to make maesurable change in the lives of the people there.
When we look into the future of our community, we believe that we will see: children flourish, lives extended, the elderly have hope, young people have opportunity, and to see souls being healed.
Through our programs and the dedication of the people of Kasese, we believe that we will begin to see measurable change in the community very soon. We can decrease the child mortality rate through our healthcare, maternity and nutrition programs. In Malawi, the greatest promise for true opportunity and development for young people is education. By seeing their communities flourish and their children thrive we believe that the people of Malawi who have never known anything but the most crushing poverty will have hope for a brighter future
We believe that holistic community programs that require participation and investment by those served enables the impoverished to develop their own communities, creating hope and improving the future lives of their families.
Rather than continuing the cycle of handouts and poverty that has stunted Africa’s growth for more than a century, we seek to provide the first step to true development by helping the poor meet the most basic of needs that prevent them from reaching their God given potential.
